Yield

8 Servings

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Flour
  • 2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
  • 1 Teaspoon Salt
  • 6 Tablespoons Butter
  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Large Eggs
  • 1 Cup Extra Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 425 degrees
  • Measure out 2 cups of flour and remove 2 tablespoons. Use the two tablespoons to coat 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. Set cheese aside
  • In a medium sized bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda.
  • Add 6 tablespoons of butter. With a pastry cutter, cut in butter until it is about pea sized.
  • Slightly beat egg and mix with buttermilk
  • Pour into flour mixture. Lightly with a fork or your fingers, incorporate liquid until there are no dry pockets. DO NOT OVERMIX!
  • Turn out onto a floured surface and lightly knead about 4 times. Form into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 8 rectangles.
  • Place on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  • Optional: Comine 1 egg with 1 Tablespoon of milk and brush the top of the biscuits for a shiny and browned finish.
  • Bake at 425 for about 20 minutes.
